How to use a Foodbank in the UK

You have two options, find an independent one with us or visit the Trussell Trust.

To find a food bank in your area, start by visiting the Food Poverty UK website for a comprehensive list of food banks near you, or check the Trussell Trust website for additional resources and information. You can also reach out to local charities and organizations for guidance and support in locating the assistance you need. If you wish to contribute to this important cause, you have the option to donate directly to your local food bank; specific details on how to do this can easily be found online. Most food banks operate during the week, typically opening their doors from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon, making it convenient for you to access their services. For further inquiries or support, do not hesitate to get in touch with your nearest food bank by phone to speak directly with someone who can assist you.

To use a Food Bank in the UK, frontline care professionals identify people in need. Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Some foodbanks also run a rural delivery service, which takes emergency foodboxes to clients living in rural areas who cannot afford to get to a foodbank. Jobcentre Plus has been working with the Trussell Trust to pilot closer signposting and checking of potential entitlement for help from the Trust’s foodbank. The pilots have been running in Gloucester, Wiltshire and Swindon District since January 2011.
